Tri Axe Dungeons & Dragons Chat Prospective Features Discussion
Add Feature
Ability To Create A Campaign - Feature Added By Snake At 12:23:34 On The 10th O September 2005
This feature is one that I have been planning for a while. It will allow a DM to create a campaign on the server. This will then keep all the information which goes on in the campaign, including users who are joined to the campaign.

There will be a seperate games list for the campaign games which are currently going on. DM's will either be able to make the game open or closed. When the game is closed, they will have to invite users to the campaign. Only these users will then be able to see the games for this campaign in the list. The players character and details will also be tied in with the campaign which is currently running.

This feature will also be tied in with the Calendar feature which will allow the DM to plan a game ahead of time. The users on the campaign will then be the only ones which can see these entries in the calendar.

The benefits for the DM of creating the game early is that they will be able to pre prepare materials for the game, including any handouts, npc's or whiteboard maps and backgrounds.

Auto Chat Logger - Feature Added By Snake At 12:35:26 On The 10th O September 2005
A lot of people have been asking for this feature, they want to be able to save chat logs of the game that they are in. And because the chat seems to be rather unstable sometimes, people loose their games. Because of this I have decided to add an auto-logger for the chat program. This feature will be enabled by default and will save each line of the chat as it gets posted.

I am also thinking that the logs will be able to be saved directly from the rich text box into a RichTextFile (.rtf) document which can then be opened in Microsoft Word. I am not sure if there is another way to open these files but there will be an option to save it as an RTF file or a standard text file which will be able to be opened in Notepad. At the moment, I think it is a good idea to save the chat log files as the Game Name and then the date of the game ie 'Tri Axe Lounge ( 10th September 2005 )'.

I am not yet sure if I should include the date in the chat log file name, but there can always be an option for this on the options form.

Background music - Feature Added By Drow_Elf_Drizzt At 8:20:25 On The 11th O March 2006
How good is sitting with your friends at scantly lit room, music to fit the scene and playing RPG!

Well, this feature is hard to design, because and even harder to user, but with careful planning I think that a background music tool that the GM can turn on and off during the game and the players hear it would be great!

Something like a live streaming radio from the GM's computer (no endoresment of copyrights violation!). That would be very good.

Have a think about it,
me!

battle map slider board - Feature Added By animike At 9:57:53 On The 31st O December 2006
i think it would be cool if everyone got a token that they could move around the board, so that we wouldn't have to erase and write ourselves in repeatedly. could even give the dm the power to make new tokens for monsters, enemies, ally's and other such things that need to be marked.

Be Able To Be In More Than One Room - Feature Added By Snake At 12:18:47 On The 10th O September 2005
This feature has been requested by a lot of people. Basically so that people can be in more than one chat room at a time. This shouldn't be too hard to add and will probably benefit a lot of members.

When you sign into the program, you will be able to see the games list, instead of this disapearing when you join a game, it will just stay open, and then another copy of the chat room form will open up for you to chat in the new room.

Character name - Feature Added By Iceberg At 3:57:37 On The 17th O September 2005
I would like to see the ability for the players to be able to appear in a room in their character's name. IE Fred257 could appear in the room as "Rorric the Bold". Maybe the DM could assign Character names to his each of his players.

It would be nice if a single player could have more than one character assigned to him. Though the player would need a way to switch between his/her personas.

Character sheet - Feature Added By Drow_Elf_Drizzt At 8:14:57 On The 11th O March 2006
I am really a new user, just downloaded the software around 10 minutes ago. Thing is, I explored it and there is not character sheet viewing and making feature!
Please make one, I hate exchanging charater sheets with my players because then I got so many just lying around on my computer and I never know which one is which and I need to have 7 word documents open... Bla Bla. Anyway, it's a mess!
If you could maybe do a user editable categories for the character page feature so we won't be stuck to one game system and we won't have thousands of unused text fields...
The GM can make the categories (also a website database of ready made character sheets' format suited for the software so as to build a more comfortable way for future gamers to use this feature) and then the players download it & fill it in. Then the GM can right click a user and view his character sheet!

Have a think about it! It would be a lot more enjoyable to play this way...

character sheets - Feature Added By animike At 0:45:39 On The 7th O June 2006
my idea seems a bit complicated (to me at least) but it's a feature i think would work really well. it consists of creating a standerdized txt format that people could write their character sheets onto, and load into the chat server. then it could be read by a person in the room with the dm flag so that dms can look at values and make secret rolls without having to ask the person what they're skills or such are cuz thats a big red flag. well thats my idea.

create a world setting - Feature Added By budsta2004 At 8:06:12 On The 23rd O January 2006
this kinda goes along with the create a campiegn but if somebody wants to create a setting then somebody could use that setting for a campeign. the creator just has to put in maps. history. culture etc. and that way people that don't have as much time could just use that and then when a campaign is over with they can ad the accounts of that campaign to the history of the setting so the setting continues to change

Map Save Feature - Feature Added By Iceberg At 4:00:25 On The 17th O September 2005
It would be nice if the DM could save a map on the whiteboard to a file that could be loaded next session.

Modifiers For The Dice - Feature Added By Snake At 22:41:07 On The 8th O September 2005
I am planning to add a box which will be situated next to the dice quantity box which will allow the user to enter in a modifier. This will then be added or subtracted from the total count of the roll and displayed in the main chat box.

nemo - Feature Added By nemo At 15:36:47 On The 21st O November 2006
I've been using dnd chat to run Warhammer fantasy roleplay (heresy i know) and i have a couple ideas for a future version.

-If possible make the map a user defined grid (i.e. the DM could define a 150 by 150 square grid). Basically, i have run into issues where our party runs out of space to draw.

-Another feature that would be nice is making it so that the DM's markings on the map are not erasable by players.

-right now in our campaign, during battle we use different colored x's to mark location for tactical battles. I have seen other programs use pre-generated shapes or even graphical representations (like a miniature). I think this would help with uniformity and neatness on the tactical board.

-I know its a long shot but we are currently using ventrilo as a voicechat program so that we can actually talk to eachother instead of typing. It has been working out great. If you could integrate a voice chat, i for one, would definitely use it.

-it would also be nice to draw maps before the game and load them up on the whiteboard when an encounter happens (or .jpegs or .bmp's for that matter ((handouts for players))

-the idea that was unanimous amongst our group was the ability to connect peer to peer in times when the main server goes down.

Anyways, i know my ideas would be pretty labor intensive, but i just wanted to put these out there for everyone to see.

GREAT program by the way, best i've used so far.

New Player Notifications - Feature Added By Snake At 12:16:17 On The 10th O September 2005
I am thinking of having a small form which fades in over the top of all other windows you have open to display when a new user has connected to the room or to your friends list. It will most likely be in the top right of your screen and there will also be options to turn this feature on or off.

I am also thinking if this feature should only be active if you are not currently looking at the D&D chat forms. This is because it is pretty obvious if you are in the chat room and somebody signs in.

Notification of post sound - Feature Added By Win At 12:05:44 On The 20th O April 2006
Very simple, just a sound that plays when someone makes a comment, like aim or any other common chatting medium.

Online List? - Feature Added By Matrix At 3:14:32 On The 27th O October 2005
Just a thought, wondered if you could have a list of people on the chat viewable from the main page here? Similar to the Members Online section *points to the right* but to see whos online? Could be updated like every minute or something.

Just an idea :D, it could even just be a simple line of peoples names scrolling across the bottom or something, just to keep others posted on whos online

Players Counter Layer On Whiteboard - Feature Added By Snake At 22:45:32 On The 8th O September 2005
I am planning to make the whiteboard multi-layered. The idea is that all the players in the game play as a character, which all have a playing counter. The DM for the room will be the only one that is allowed to move the counters around on the whiteboard map. These counters will also be independent of the rest of the drawings / images which are currently on the board. The DM will also be able to show and hide any of the counters at anytime.

Show and Tell - Feature Added By Lord Hawkins At 6:06:39 On The 2nd O October 2005
I like to use lots of old pics of silent movie actors when running call of cthulhu games... it would be handy to have an integrated feature which allowed you to show pictures or maps. Another feature that could add mood to any online game would be a sound mixer that could play pre-loaded music or sound fx.

Text Formatting - Feature Added By Agehn Hanca At 3:00:09 On The 25th O January 2006
The ability to write in bold and italic and to underline text would be great. It's very difficult to put emotion and implied meaning into text, and every little bit helps.
